SONY BVW10 BETACAM SP PLAYER, BUILT IN TBC, WORKS
Up for sale is an exceptionally nice Sony BVW-10 BetaCam SP player (not recorder). The front panel doesn't say SP but, when the deck was refurbished, the heads were replaced with SP heads. We used this with nothing but SP tape & it worked beautifully. This fits just the smaller cassettes, up to 30 minutes in length.
The only issue with the deck is on occasion the tape will not eject. You must shut the power down and then hold the eject button and turn the power back on and the tape will eject. Just needs an adjustment that we do not perform here.
One of the most valuable features of this deck is the fully-functional built-in time base corrector, under the front panel. Adjustments include video level, chroma level, set-up (black level), Y/C delay, and hue. Notice that each also has a preset so you don’t have to use the adjustments if you don’t want to. While most non-linear systems have similar adjustments for incoming video it is so much better to make the adjustments at the source. Don't underestimate the value of the TBC.
There is a Dolby noise reduction option and adjustment for your sync source, if you’re using one.
With the audio output adjustments you can set the audio output levels right on the front of the deck. The functioning VU meters allow you to properly monitor the audio output, as well. Again, it is so much better to make those adjustments at the source rather than compensating downstream in your audio path.
All the other controls work as intended & all the knobs & levers are in place & work correctly.
On the back are XLR audio & BNC video connections. I haven't used the 36 pin remote connection but I have used this with the 9 pin connection and that works.
Since the new heads we used this deck to transfer around 30 BetaSP tapes to our non-linear system. It's a real bargain for a small boutique editing facility or someone setting up shop at home. Keep in mind since there are over a million BetaCam decks in use worldwide an editing facility is likely to receive source material on Beta for some time to come, even if it's just archived material.
The deck itself weighs almost 70 pounds, but it has two large handles on each side. Those lift up and stop at a 90 degree angle, and they are very heavy-duty.
