COMMENTS FROM A CUSTOMERS

Thanks for all you’ve done; good value, great work done quickly, and pleasant, accommodating customer relations. Rob. T, Florida USA - (Film restoration & transfer to AVI files)

We spent all of last evening looking at old movies. The oldest was produced in 1956 and the last around 1970. We were pleasantly surprised that the quality was so good, and very happy that we now have these memories on DVD. Thank you very much for your excellent work. I now plan to make a copy. Should be a hoot !  Thanks again, and if we ever run into folks of our vintage with old films, we will certainly recommend your company. Regards, Don Osoyoos B.C. - (Film transfer to AVI files)

CINAVISION™ 8MM & S8MM

R8mm & Super 8mm (silent film only). Electronic shuttering, instead of a physical shutter, gives absolutely zero flicker in the video. Each video field contains information from just one film picture.

Image off the sharper. emulsion side of the film allows crystal clear imaging. The enlarged gate allows access to 100% of the frame with no cropping. Super bright LED light source which prevents burns or heat on the film. Sprocket-less drive protects customer's film from potential damage typically found on sprocket driven projectors and transfer devices.

CINAVISION 16MM (silent & sound film). For film originally shot at 18 or 24 FPS (Frames per second). Direct imaging from film to sensor using a 2/3", 3 CCD system.16mm incorporates a precision sprocket transport system to accommodate the larger mass and weight of 16mm reels. The end result is a rock steady transfer that is frame accurate.  The transfer is performed without frame rate conversion for film originally shot at 24 frames per second. 16mm film shot originally at 15, 16 or 18 FPS frames per second with frame rate conversion. Sound film must be originally shot at 24 fps and be optical or magnetic sound stripe on the film.

TRUE HIGH DEFINITION TO HD MINI-DV TAPE High Definition quality transfer of R8mm, Super 8mm & 16mm film (Sound or silent film) to HD MINI-DV TAPE FORMAT.

3) FILM TRANSFER TO DVD

TRANSFERRING TO DVD-R or DVD RAM Transferring the film direct to Professional Grade DVD-R Master is a very acceptable and economical way to transfer your home movie films and the quality is exceptional (Twice as good as VHS) and lasts 5 to 10 times longer. With the popularity of DVD players and distribution of Hollywood movies to DVD this is the best way to view your films after transfer.

Editing: You can not perform editing on your computer with a DVD-R or DVD RAM Mpeg-2 (VBR) files.Transfers straight to DVD-R with Mpeg-2 Hybrid (VBR) Variable Bit Rate encoding are for viewing purpose only. If you need to edit your films we recommend having your films transferred to Mini-DV, DVCAM or AVI file format.

Progressive Scan: TMTV's DVD Recorders are equipped with a high-precision progressive video processor that handles 30-frame progressive scan images on NTSC discs. This lets you enjoy high-resolution progressive playback of original DVD images. You must have a DVD player and TV that will playback progressive.

Time Base Corrector (TBC) + Advanced 3D Digital Noise Reduction (DNR): The Time Base Corrector helps reduce jitter and performs signal conversion to create a stable signal. At the same time, Advanced 3D DNR detects and virtually eliminates randomly generated noise and colour irregularities. Thanks to these two technologies, the signal is automatically detected and optimum processing is performed to provide an easy way to even more beautiful digital recordings.

4x Natural Gradation 12-bit film-to-Digital Converter: The result is faithful reproduction of the details in both the bright and dark parts of scenes, so that for the first time you can see everything there is to see.

Titles & menus: Titles & menus with titles can be created on the DVD to instantly skip forward or back to selected sections. Options like; Custom DVD printing from basic black and white to full colour photo quality, custom DVD cases & printable inserts add a great touch to your DVD.

Copies: We can make a PERFECT COPY of your DVD with our state-of-the-art duplicators. VHS copies can also be made for distribution for those family or friends that do not have a DVD player and we can convert to PAL DVD or VHS for playing in overseas counties.

M-PEG-2 Hybrid (VBR) Variable Bit Rate encoding: Mpeg-2 Hybrid (VBR) Variable Bit Rate encoding. Film is captured using two pass MPEG-2 variable bit rate encoding and recorded to DVD-R NTSC region 0. DVD RECORDING SPEED is at 9.5 Mbps (Megabytes per second) and recorded direct onto the disk in real-time. This technology gives the best possible quality film transfer for viewing on DVD-R format for playback on computer DVD drives and DVD players.  Variable Bit Rate (VBR) encoding maximizes the disk space by squeezing the highest quality film onto a disk.

Regular 8mm, Super 8mm & 16mm sound or silent film transferred to DVD in STANDARD DEFINITION TV MODE (Playback on normal TV). Full frame - no cropping With frame rate conversion: Regular 8mm, Super 8mm & 16mm sound or silent film originally shot  at 18FPS is transferred to 29.97 fps with frame rate conversion.

Super 8mm film & 16mm film at 24FPS (frames per second) With-out frame rate conversion: Super 8mm & 16mm film sound film at 24 (Frames per second) is performed Frame by Frame (Only one film frame appears on each video field - output as progressive frames, rather than interlaced = Full frame of digital video for each full frame of film). This transfer method is performed with-out frame rate conversion.

8MM MOVIE FILM TO DVD OR DV

4) FILM TRANSFER TO MINI-DV OR DVCAM (DIGITAL VIDEO TAPE)

TRANSFERRING TO DV (Digital Video Tape) For preservation, archival and future video editing of your movie films and transferred to MINI-DV or DVCAM (tape) Master. This allows you to edit, capture prints, add music or sound, titles or transfer your film via "Firewire" to your computer using your DV deck or DV camcorder. (You must have a DV deck or camcorder & video editing software & hardware and a computer that can edit full frame video) Transferring to a MINI-DV or DVCAM MASTER and making copies to DVD is recommended. We can also make a MINI-DV or DVCAM SUB-MASTER, DIRECT from the MASTER through the "Firewire" connection which results in a PERFECT COPY. We can also copy your MINI-DV or DVCAM MASTER through "Firewire" to DVD for distribution. (If you do not plan on editing or doing further manipulation of your movies then we recommend transferring them direct to DVD-R). Film is transferred to DV25 Specifications (called DV, DVCAM or MINI-DV) 720x480 NTSC at 25.0 MBPS, which is more than twice the MBPS of DVD. We can also transfer to HD (High Definition) in MINI-DV only.

16MM MOVIE FILM TO DVD OR DV

5) FILM TRANSFER TO AVI FILE FORMAT (SD - standard definition)

TRANSFERRING DIRECT TO AVI file format and files stored on DVD archival discs or external portable hard drive. Home movie film transfers to AVI File format (silent film only). For preservation, archival and video editing of your home movie films transferred direct to "FILE" FORMAT. Just put the DVD in your computer, transfer the files to your hard drive and you can view, edit, capture prints, add music or sound and titles. (You must have video editing software & hardware and a computer that can edit full frame video).

NOTE: Films will be transferred and saved in Audio-Video Interleaved (AVI) file DV TYPE 1 AVI file (codec = dvsd) at a bit rate of 25.0 Mbps (Megabytes per second) and a display size of 720x480 in a video format of NTSC then stored on a DVD-R disc. Each minute of video saved with this setting consumes 180 to 200MB or for every 10 minutes of film transferred the file size will be approximately 2.2GB which means we can only put a maximum of two 2.2GB files on one 4.7GB DVD-R disc. If we transfer your films to the maximum DVD disc size of 4.7GB the file may be too large to download or handle on your computer, so we will create several files for each film rather than one film per file, unless the films are shorter than ten minutes (such as 50 or 100 foot reels). We number the files in sequence for easy access.

Film clips are immediately editable/playable by most NLE software packages. You must have a computer and software that can handle viewing or editing full motion video. NOTE: Windows© Movie Maker and most PC based computers with video editing software supports AVI.

External Hard Drives for files larger than 4.7 GB: You can also supply us with a portable external hard drive (USB 2.0) and we can upload the files directly to the external hard drive. There is no additional charge and you would save on DVD costs. We can also supply you with an external portable hard drive for you to use. A deposit is required and additional charges would apply. You need to be running Windows NT, 2000 or XP. For Mac users you will need to check if your system will run DV TYPE 1 AVI files.

SPECIAL REQUEST: We can store files on DVD-R DL (Dual Layer) or DVD+R DL (Double Layer) 8.55 GB discs at additional cost. This doubles the amount of files that can be stored on a single DVD. DVD-R DL & DVD+R DL Discs can be read in many DVD devices (older units are less compatible). If you request this service make sure your DVD player will read DVD-R DL or DVD+R DL Discs.

Film is transferred DIRECT to AVI File. Our system results in a high-resolution direct digital transfer with exceptional quality. During film transfer we can also put your film on Mini-DV or DVCAM. Ask about film transfer direct to File format and Mini-DV or DVCAM. (If you do not plan on editing or doing further manipulation of your movies then we recommend transferring them direct to DVD-R in Mpeg-2 Hybrid (VBR) Variable Bit Rate encoding).

AVI FILE SIZES IN MB & GB

6) FILM TRANSFER TO HD (HIGH DEFINITION) MINI-DV

HD (HIGH DEFINITION) TO MINI-DV - For home movie film 16mm sound or silent originally shot at 24FPS.

HIGH-DEFINITION FILM TRANSFER to facilitate the transfer from 16 mm film originally shot at 24FPS (Frames per second).

Film transferred in HD; only one film frame appears on each video field - output as progressive frames, rather than interlaced = Full frame of digital video for each full frame of film. This transfer method is performed in full HD fidelity, without frame rate conversion. 16mm film originally shot at 24 fps is transferred to 16:9 WIDE-SCREEN HIGH - DEFINITION FORMAT to Mini-DV (Can only be played back with compatible wide-screen, HD High - Definition format TV & HDV 24p Player). HDV is an inexpensive high-definition video recording format which uses MPEG2 compression to fit HDV content onto the same MiniDV tapes originally developed for standard definition recording. 24p Progressive + film mode where the CMOS sensor captures 24 frames per second progressive but using telecine is taped in 60i to remain compatible with consumer level editing suites. Please contact us for more info on HDV transfers.

7) SEVERELY DAMAGED OR WARPED FILM: Film that is severely damaged by dehydration, severely warped and curling, the emulsion is cracked (image deterioration) and the film is broken into small pieces, extremely brittle or has major damage to the perforations, is usually beyond repair and can not be restored or transferred. SEE PHOTOS However we may be able to recover some of the film through our film recovery and restoration process. FILM THAT IS WARPED OR SHRUNK: Film that shows mild to moderate warping or shrinking, that can not be projected much less transferred may be recovered at least long enough to be transferred. The process is called "Film Recovery". We are able to perform many levels of film restoration by a gradual, condition-specific, multi-step process that can recondition and stabilize dehydrated, dried out 8mm & 16mm motion picture film allowing it for transfer to many of our digital formats. The process can be applied to both colour and B&W safety films. Please go here for more information

8) HOME MOVIE FILM TRANSFER & LIMITED LIABILITY (IMPORTANT PLEASE READ!)

Please note that we match the film's original colour, dark film is lightened, overexposed film is darkened. Additional costs may be added: If you wish colour grading, colour correction, digital editing, frame by frame digital scanning for pro format motion picture film, speed correction for films speeds other than 18 or 24FPS). If your film has a white powder or smells like vinegar, then your film will need to be cleaned, restored & lubricated. If your film is severely broken or the splices have come unglued or separated then splicing/editing will have to be performed. Please ask about film cleaning, lubrication, restoration & preservation or splicing/editing. If your films are mounted backwards on their original film reels then they will have to be remounted.

Rates listed on this website are for a "straight transfer" of consumer HOME MOVIE FILM and is intended for home use. If you require professional film transfer for TV broadcast or theatrical release then please let us know and we can discuss the OPTIONS AND PRO RATES available.

Home movie film is transferred in whole; there is no editing done during this process. ( Completely blank, black, white frames, extremely out of focus parts will be transferred unless otherwise specified). Extremely over or under exposed film will also be transferred, it may have that one shot of Aunt Mary that you want. Film that is damaged or copy written will not be transferred.

Films originally shot at speeds other than 18 or 24FPS (frames per second), such as 9, 10, 12, 15, 16, 17 frames per second will show a higher speed rate due to TV sync issues. However there are options to correct some framing issues during editing. There is additional cost to performing for this service. This option is only available when transferring film to Mini-DV or DVCam. DVD Masters & copies can be created from the Mini-DV or DVCam masters.

LIABILITY

No refunds will be issued for speed related issues. Many old 8mm cameras were shot at many different speeds other than the correct speed needed for film transfer to digital formats. Some film cameras were "wind-up" which caused irregular film speed.

Please number your films, even if you do not know the correct sequence. This helps to make sure we have not missed transferring any of the films. If they are not numbered we can not be responsible for non transferred films.

While TMTV takes every precaution for the safekeeping and handling of all material delivered to it, we can not assume responsibility for loss of, damage to, said materials from any cause whatsoever. It is the clients responsibility to insure their material before delivery to TMTV. PLEASE FILL OUT, PRINT, SIGN & SEND THE SUBMISSION FORM WITH YOUR ORDER

COPYRIGHT MATERIAL: ANY copy written movie film will NOT be transferred unless you hold the copyright. No exceptions! This includes cartoons.

TRANSFERRING TO VHS: Transferring film direct to VHS videotape is NOT recommended or done at our lab due to the poor quality of VHS and its short shelf life. Film is transferred DIRECT to Mini-DV or DVD Masters. If you need your film on VHS we make copies from the Mini-DV or DVD Masters.

FILM QUALITY INSPECTION: All film will be inspected before transfer and we will inform the customer of the films condition prior to transfer so we may give you an exact price for the transfer. (No hidden costs!)
