Nelson BC Canada
--- Alex
Atamanenko, MP
for BC Southern
Interior, will
be participating
in a Peace Cafe
on Wednesday,
February 22,
that is being
hosted by
Conscience
Canada in
Nelson.
“After working
so closely with
the folks at
Conscience
Canada to
introduce Bill
C-363
(Conscientious
objection to the
use of taxes for
military
purposes) I am
really looking
forward to an
evening of hot
soup, watching
films and Peace
talk,” said
Atamanenko.
The BC MP has
introduced other
Bills and
Motions related
to peace
building
initiatives in
the House of
Commons, notably
Bill C-373 to
establish a
Department of
Peace.
“I believe a
Department of
Peace, with a
comprehensive
mandate to
promote a
non-violent
culture of peace
within our
country and
abroad, is the
architecture
that is missing
in our
government,”
says Atamanenko.
“I notice a lot
of talk about
war in the House
of Commons and
far too little
discussion about
the many
non-violent
approaches that
are more
effective in
addressing
conflict
resolution.”
Atamanenko is
hoping for a
great turn-out
at the Peace
Cafe at 402
Victoria Street
(opposite
Nelson’s public
library)
beginning at
6:00 pm on
February 22.
