Bomb threat at Rossland Courthouse

Canada --- On
February 9,
2012 at
approximately
2:00 p.m. an
unknown male
caller phoned
the Crown
Counsel Office
in Nelson and
stated that
there is a bomb
at the
courthouse.
Court was in
session in
Rossland and it
was quickly
determined that
the threat was
directed at the
Rossland
Provincial
Courthouse. Trail
RCMP Detachment
was notified and
members
immediately
responded. The
Courthouse was
safely
evacuated,
including the
prisoners in
custody. Trail
EHS and Fire
Dept. were
notified and
staged at a safe
distance from
the scene.
B.C.
Sheriffs and
Trail RCMP
members
teamed
up and a
search of
building
was conducted
with
negative
results. B.C.
Sheriffs transported
the 5
prisoners
back to
Trail Det.
Arrangements
were later
made between
the Justice
of the
Peace, Crown
Counsel and
Defense
Counsel
regarding
Release/Remand
of the
Prisoners. The
Court House
remained
closed for
the rest of
the day.
The Trail
RCMP are
continuing
their
investigation
into this
criminal
offence. A
similar
Bomb threat
was made
last fall
also
involving
the Rossland
Provincial
Courthouse. This
previous
occurrence,
along with
yesterday's
offence,
will be
reviewed for
persons of
interest.
